Goole: Knife Point Robbery Leads to Three Young Men Imprisoned for 30 Months

Last October the trio were out prowling the streets into the early hours, causing chaos to the local residents. At 10.30pm two of the lads were caught on CCTV stealing crates of Stella from the local Tesco supermarket, before upsetting residents and ‘setting about’ on a stranger passing them in the street at 2.30am.

An 18-year-old man was walking along Fourth Avenue near the junction of Pasture Road in Goole after a night out, when the trio started to follow him, before they pulled out a flick knife and threatened the victim to hand over his wallet and money.

The offenders, Sean Marshall (18), Patrick Nolan (18) and a 16-year old boy left the scene, stealing only £20 from the victim.

The lads were quickly identified following a CID investigation and did little to help the Detectives piece the evidence together.

Despite their lack of cooperation in interview, detectives managed to secure enough evidence for the CPS to support a prosecution.

As the court date loomed, the three lads came to their senses and admitted the robbery, and yesterday were given 30 months imprisonment, to be served in a Young Offenders Institute.

Detective Constable Wendy Breeze, who was the officer in the case said: “These three men caused havoc in Goole that evening, which involved stealing alcohol and then generally causing nuisance until they found a victim to scare and threaten.

“The knife point robbery has had a tremendous impact on the victim, his confidence has been shattered, he now makes conscious decisions to not do certain things, in fear this may happen again. Despite the fear, the victim showed great courage coming forward and luckily the offenders decided to plead guilty at the eleventh hour, so the victim was not made to go into the witness box and re-live his ordeal.

“I am pleased with the sentencing result and genuinely hope the three lads will use this time to reflect on their wrong doing and show remorse for what they did to this young man.”
