With over 25,000 visitors expected at this year’s event, officers and volunteers from Humberside Police will be at a stand with crime prevention advice and a limited amount of free caravan alarms.
PCSO Austin Petch says, “Many of the caravan companies that are showing their new products at the event are from the East Riding of Yorkshire, as this is such an important event locally it is an ideal opportunity to speak to the local community and visitors about preventing crime.
“Caravans are very valuable items and the contents are rich pickings for opportunist thieves.
“If you plan to visit the event please stop by the Police stand to have a chat with officers and volunteers.”
If you own a caravan but can’t make it to the event, here are some crime prevention tips.
- Never leave valuables on view through your caravan window.
- Always close and lock your windows and doors, when leaving your caravan and take your keys with you – even if it is only for a short time to use the site facilities.
- All property should be UV marked with your home postcode and registered on the property registration site www.immobilise.com
- Never leave registration documents in the caravan and have etched the 17 digit vehicle identification number on to the chassis and windows.
To prevent tourers being towed away
- secure each corner steady with a padlock and a short tackle
- Lock the coupling head into a cover using a good quality hitch lock.
- Use locknuts and a clamp on caravan wheels
