An 83-year-old Market Weighton man was in collision with a Citroen Berlingo van that was being driven by a 39-year-old man from Market Weighton from the direction of Arras Hill.
The elderly pedestrian is believed to have been crossing the road using a zebra crossing when the collision occurred.
The man, who was walking his dog at the time of the collision, sustained serious leg injuries along with a head injury and was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary by ambulance for treatment. He has been detained in hospital and his injuries are described as serious.
Neither the dog nor the van driver was injured.
The road was closed until shortly after 1100hrs to allow police collision investigators to examine the scene and appropriate diversions were put in place.
Officers are seeking witnesses to the collision and ask anyone with information to call Humberside Police on the non emergency number 101 quoting log number 98 of 12 July 2012.
