The new school year has begun and students are back in full flow. The allotment project which proved a great success last year has again got big plans for the upcoming year.
14 children from Sydney Smith School will be growing a variety of products including potatoes and onions which they will be donating to a residential home.
Inspector Andy Woodhead from Humberside Polices Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) said: “We are very keen to mirror the success of last years allotment project and hope that the children enjoy being involved and put the same amount of hard work in that we saw last year.
“The project which begins Monday 24 September, provides the children with the opportunity to learn something new about gardening and horticulture, and it also provides our younger community with an alternative activity to get involved with.”
Officers of Kirk Ella are re-introducing the boxing club which was also a resounding success last year.
Inspector Woodhead said: “The sessions which begin Monday 1 October have been jointly funded by Sydney Smith School and local company Colt Insulation. Without this funding the project would not have been able to continue so special thanks must be made to the school and Colt Insulation.
“The project was such a success that there is also interest from other schools including Wolfreton.
“We are extremely optimistic that these projects will continue to be a success and we look forward to introducing even more new members to the projects.”
