Body Cams Go Live in Bridlington

Neighbourhood Tactical Unit, Inspector Jonathan Roe said: “This will be a great tool for my team to record and identify offenders of criminal and anti-social behaviour.

“The devices will be used around the clock to record people and incidents behaving in an anti-social manner, which could be shown to the offenders to following day or if deemed serious enough, evidence for a criminal prosecution.

“Quite often if a person is given the opportunity to be shown their behaviour on tape, they are usually shocked and appalled by their behaviour. This is enough to shock them without given them a criminal record. If however we record a serious offence, which needs to be crimed, the footage we record will help as part of our criminal investigation.”

Dog Bite, Tickton on Good Friday - Can You Help Trace Dog or Owner?

As the 52-year-old caretaker, stepped out of the car, the dog jumped up at the man.

The man put his arm up to defend himself and after a little struggle, managed to get hold of the dogs’ collar to restrain it.

As the man attempted to restrain the dog, the dog grabbed hold of the mans sleeve and bit into his arm.

The dog then jumped over a near by fence onto Green Lane.

The victim required four stitches in his arm and is still undergoing treatment for the wound.

During the incident the dog did not growl or bark and was not seen to be with an owner.

PC Martin Pepper, investigating the incident said: “This is a very worrying incident and I am urging anyone who believes they can identify the dog or its owner to come forward.

“I have almost ruled out the possibility the dog came from the village of Tickton, and believe this could have been a stray or a dog which had left its owner near the fields close-by.

“To help jog peoples memory, Good Friday was a windy and chilly day, the dog which attacked the victim has been described as a black small dog, perhaps 18 inches tall, possibly a staffy cross or a pit bull. The dog had a docked tail and a muddy underneath. The dog has been described as unkempt.

“The dog however was wearing a very distinctive collar around its neck.  The collar was made from a black webbed fabric, possibly canvas with silver ringlets along the length of the collar. The collar had a clasp fastening, similar to a buckle on a rucksack which was large and had either; a V, M or W letter impressed into it.

“The incident took place nearly a month ago, and after lots of local enquiries around Tickton, I feel a wider appeal is required to help identify this dog and its owner. I am pleased to say I am not aware of any other dog bite incidents immediately before or after this incident, however, the fact that the victim was attacked whilst unprovoked, makes this a priority to locate the dog and its owner.

“The victim sustained a nasty injury and I wish him well in his recovery.”

Anyone who may be able to help identify the dog or its owner is asked to contact Humberside Police on 101, quoting log number 288 of 29/03/13.

POLICE in the East Riding are reminding people to drink alcohol responsibly during this weekends’ bank holiday – THINK B4 U DRINK

Alcohol is part of many people’s lives and may have a place in cultural and family traditions. Although many people drink sensibly, sometimes it can be hard to know when you begin to drink too much.

The police often see an increase in drink related antisocial behaviour and violence over an extended weekend and particularly if the weather is good.

Inspector David Braysmith, from Humberside Police, responsible for Licensing matters and reducing violent crime, said:

“We want everyone to enjoy themselves – responsibly and safely this weekend.

“We know that whilst most people drink responsibly, there are a small minority that do not.”

A multi-agency campaign called Think B4 U Drink will be in full force during the May Bank Holiday, educating people of the dangers of alcohol.

He added: “Alcohol can dramatically change someone’s behaviour which often results in them doing something they may not do whilst sober.

“We are asking people to think about the consequences before they begin their night out.

“We want people to remember that one drink too many could change their night and the effect of their actions could harm others or lead to a criminal record for themselves.”

Insp Braysmith added: “Often people who have drunk too much alcohol will expect to suffer from a hangover the next day, and not fully realise that binge drinking and/or drinking more than the recommended intake on a regular basis can also cause long-term damage to their health.

“Alcohol is a drug that has the immediate effect of altering mood. Drinking it makes people feel relaxed, happy and even euphoric, but in fact alcohol is a depressant. It switches off the part of the brain that controls judgement, leading to loss of inhibitions. Drinking even small amounts of alcohol can affect physical coordination.  All of which can increase the risk of injury and/or harm.

“Alcohol related violence and anti-social behaviour puts significant demands on police resources and other public services, as well as having a negative impact on local communities. Think B 4 U Drink is a multi-agency campaign covering all aspects of alcohol related harm. In order to effectively address the issues it is essential there is a greater focus on joint working with other services dealing with alcohol related harms.

"Humberside Police’s involvement in the Think B 4 U Drink campaign is designed to raise awareness of the crime and disorder issues associated with alcohol and to bring about changes in behaviour in order to deliver positive outcomes.

“Our part of the Think B4 U Drink campaign will focus on individual responsibility and on the responsibility of those within the licensed trade.”

The Think B4U Drink campaign is run by a range of agencies within the Humber region. This includes Humberside Police, NHS, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service and Safer Roads Humber. Their overall aim is to reduce the effects alcohol can have on individuals, their families and friends and the local community.

POLICE WARNING RE SHOP THEFT IN THE EAST RIDING

$

0

POLICE in the East Riding are reminding people that shop theft will not be tolerated and that if caught you will be prosecuted.

Inspector Taylor of Bridlington’s Neighbourhood Policing Team stated: "I would like to take this opportunity to remind people that shop theft is illegal and those people who are caught doing so will be prosecuted.

"It is important that people remember that not only stealing is illegal, also purchasing stolen goods is also against the law.

"If you do buy anything that is found to be stolen you could end up with a charge of handling stolen goods, a crime in itself which could result in a fine or community order in lesser cases or a custodial sentence of up to 14 years for more serious cases.

"In these hard economic times and people are desperate to save money wherever they can. But this is not the way to do it.

"Be careful who you buy goods from. If you’re in doubt about whether the seller has the right to sell an item, find out what you can about the item and the seller. It’s the same rule of thumb as most things – if it’s too good to be true, then it probably is!

"Handling stolen goods is a crime but you're unlikely to be arrested if you didn't know the goods you bought were stolen. You should tell the police as soon as you discover or suspect you've bought stolen goods. Stop using them. If you don't report it and you carry on using your goods, you could be arrested for handling stolen goods.

"The local Neighbourhood Policing Team has a really good relationship with the Bridlington and East Riding second-hand shops, the staff are all aware of the law in relation to handling stolen goods. So people are looking at alternative ways of passing on their stolen items. People often feel that this is a victimless crime but it is not just large retailers that are hit by this type of crime. Smaller local shops are also victims of theft which directly hits the local economy and jobs."

A 34 year old woman was recently charged with shop theft at Morrison’s supermarket in Bridlington. The theft happened on Monday 20 May and the woman will be appearing at Bridlington Mags Court on Wednesday 05 June.
